Canaljuegos got an interview with Molyneux around the time of the 10-year anniversary and has published it just now. I’m unsure how much clearer Molyneux could be about online stuff without actually announcing it; the Secret Game has still not turned into Dimitri or BC and, he says, Microsoft is awesome. Worth reading.

A few days ago, Lionhead Studios turned 10 years old, which is not a small thing in this competitive industry. Looking 10 years back, do you feel that Lionhead is where you wanted it to be?

I’m incredibly proud that Lionhead has survived and flourished but I still feel that our greatest game is yet to come. I think we now realize what we stand for, which is innovation, questioning and challenging accepted industry standards and just pushing all the boundaries. We’ll do all this to finally make a totally great game. We now have no excuse not to do this as we have all the time and resources we need.

What do you expect from the next years at Lionhead? Right now you are developing Fable 2 (We will talk about it later), but what about the future? Is Project Dimitri a name we will hear again in the next months? We know that your creative power can not be working in a single game…

Now you know I can’t say much. Yes we are working on another title at the moments and it is more of a casual game. Once we start to talk about it you will see some “Project Dimitri “elements!

And what about B.C.? A few years ago, in 2002, I saw a playable version of the game with my eyes, and I fell in love with the idea, the concept of the game. After its cancelation you declared you had the hope of retaking the project in the future. Is BC still in your agenda?

BC is safely on a shelf somewhere waiting for someone to pick it up and love it again … seriously I’m not saying we’ll never work on it again just that at the moment we don’t have any plans to revive it

Let’s talk about Fable 2. There are two subjects very present in all your games: good and evil, and freedom. Is Fable 2 going to reach the freedom level most of the players were expecting from the first Fable? Will the player really have the choice, not only to be good or bad following a scripted path, but also to write his own adventure? Can you give us an example of how much freedom of movements and choice will the players have?

Yes there will be both total freedom of movement and a broader range of emotional choices in Fable 2. Firstly the world is totally free roaming and simulated to such a degree that not only can you go anywhere you want but you can buy everything you see and could end up owning and ruling the whole world! As I mentioned we’ve expanded our choice axis system so now it’s not just good/evil but also purity/corruption and kindness/ cruelty. All of the choices you make are reflected not only in your character but also by your dog, family and children too. In short we’ve tried to make sure that Fable 2 is bigger and better than the original game in every way, which is what I think a sequel should always be.

You have also talked about Love in Fable 2. As you said, love is one of the most important things in real life, but videogames do not reflect that. Is fable going to give love the importance it has? I can imagine how anger affects to combat, or fear affects to dexterity, but it´s hard to imagine how love can affect a character, besides drawing red hearts over his head.

It’s the fact that characters and things in the game care about and love you which makes love so powerful in Fable 2. These emotions do affect who you are and what you represent in the game. You’ll find the love that it exhibted to you strangely compelling. During play throughs here we’ve found this aspect of the game very intoxicating as you start to care for the things that care for you and we will really exploit that to enhance the game play experience.

It has been said that, in Fable 2, players can buy buildings, and even a castle on top of a mountain. That is great… but, If I bought a castle I would like everyone to know, I would like to see other players astonished by my migthy fortress, and I mean real players. Will Fable 2 have online capabilities, so players can interact with each other?

This not something I can talk about at the moment. Online, trading, co-op and showing off are my favorite features in games (and I love working on my favorite features!)

Xbox 360 and PC. Those are your machines. Seeing how the new generation of hardware is evolving, do you think that you are in the right side? There have been some interesting changes in the consoles and peripherals market, like motion sensing. What do you think about the technology of this new generation? Are your ambitious concepts limited by the current technology?

All I can say is that Microsoft is an incredibly smart company and I never fail to be impressed by just how clever they are. Don’t forget this is the company which pioneered LIVE which I believe will ultimately be far more impactful on video games in the long term than something like the Wii controller.

Most of your games have appeared both for PC and Xbox 360. The console market keeps on growing, and that affects the PC. Do you believe that the future of gaming will be dominated by consoles, instead of PC’s?

I think the PC is a wonderful platform for certain genres of games such as RTS and Simulation games but there are an awful lot of other genres that don´t work so well on it. The strength on console is their simplicity and accessibility so ultimately I think they will dominate the games market except in certain specific games genres.

That’s all Mr. Molyneux, we will stay tuned to any news on Fable 2 and your future projects. Thank you very much for your time and attention.
