B&W2 (was?) in development for Mac
As Sam pointed out on the Lionhead forums, Feral Interactive announced developing B&W2 for Macs in 2005.
(However …)
Feral Interactive, the 25th of October ‘05
Today, we are enraptured to announce that Lionhead Studio’s latest game, Black & White 2, is in development for the Mac.
From the creative minds of developers Peter Molyneux and Ron Miller, Black & White 2 is the sequel to the hugely successful Black & White. In this game that mixes up strategy and sim genres, you reprise your role as a young god in search of followers and return to the once innocent world of Eden. This land, however, has changed. The inhabitants have lost their innocence and developed new technology and weapons.
Will you be a harsh or a benevolent God? That’s the choice you must make in the breathtaking world of Black & White 2. Every decision you take has an impact. Each action or inaction prompts changes to buildings, the environment and wildlife, all altering to reflect your choices.
With the help of a gigantic Creature that you raise from infancy, you must earn the respect and devotion of the natives. How you choose to do that, whether through nurturing them or terrorizing them, is up to you. Will your deity herald peaceful coexistence - or domination, war and conquest?
Check the site for more information on Black & White 2 for Mac OS X in the coming weeks and months.
However, that’s more than a year gone, and there’s been no more news about it. Additionally, Feral have been making quite a song and dance about The Movies, and B&W2 doesn’t even have it’s own minisite. Granted, it could still be under development (The Movies is still being developed, but available to preorder), but then why no publicity or news whatsoever?
25th of October, they probably had at least preliminary sales statistics back then, so it seems unlikely that they decided to scrap it solely because of that. Or perhaps they’re short staffed and are planning to do it over a longer time-period; it’s hard to tell with this Mac types. (PC users are freaks too.) Sam also linked that post, so as far as he knows it’s still being developed, too.
You could play a practically infinite game of trying to back-guess this, and I can’t tell which it is. Feral certainly have the license to do it, so if anyone does it’ll be them.
