Video Diary done Tuesday, honest

Just to give you a quick update: the edit should be done and dusted on Tuesday, Monday the final work will be done on it, so yeah.

Exciting and some of this stuff is really hot. Hope to get it out pretty soon now, but stay tuned. Always cut to the ’sexy girl’, in this case Fable 2. Sam

Enterprising Molyneux about AI

The serious games association Anglish is opening a new event on June 27th and 28th in London called Enterprising Game Week - and the entire thing is launched by a Molyneux keynote on AI.

Not much is known other than that he’s giving a keynote for “The inaugural Apply AI Innovation Conference” on the 28th. Apart from the AI strand of presentations there’ll also be stuff on “virtual worlds, web 2.0 functions and video games to create learning and brand extension experiences”.

Keynote speakers from Cisco Systems USA on extending their brand & improving their training using games and Second Life - Peter Molyneux, games luminary keynoting on the proof positive of how AI gives you the creative edge - speakers from China on the Asian games and serious games market - and many more you won’t find at any other European conference.

The Guardian & AI

The Guardian, British newspaper with a well-known liberal bias, has got a bit of an article about AI and talked to Peter Molyneux and Steve Grand about it. It’s mostly talk about how cool true AI, as opposed to lots of conditional statements, in games would be; the dog, though, seems to be properly capable of learning and apparently they’ve been prototyping the use of neural networks for Fable 2, but ended up settling for a mixture of smart AI and special cases. This raises the question of just how the AI of B&W and B&W2’s creatures worked - anybody know? The interesting parts are quoted below.

P MOORE

We’ve got a webcams page you can see all (1) of the webcams on, simultaneously!!, and Sam’s been showing brief snapshots of his work on the LH Video Diaries. Now at closing time today he froze the cam on a shot of a videotape, labelled :

Sam Cam videotape

Peter MoorePeter Moore happens to be Vice President of what comes down to Gaming at Microsoft (thanks Ravek!).

What does this mean? It would be wrong to jump to conclusions, such as the video’s first cut being ready and sent out for approval.

Update: Sam says,

Heh - if only you knew what was happening aeh!

Master tapes are meant to be kept, not sent to someone else, and you would definitely not write the name of the addressee on the tape…

Ian Lovett says something

Gamereactor.dk has a video interview from the GDC between Technical Art Director Ian Lovett and hack Bengt Lemne; direct download link here. Set to clips from the trailer and the GDC videos, it looks pretty great. Via Maggot.

Lionhead at GradesGams

Lionhead are going to be attending and exhibiting at GamesGrads, two recruitment fairs held in England at the end of this month. There’s a North event in Manchester on Tuesday the 24th of April, and a Southern one in London on the 26th. There’s a fair few other studios there too, and the entire thing is free, so this is the place to be hired (Lionhead are looking especially for animators, artists and scripters).

Games Grads is a career fair designed for all students on computer games degree courses.

It’s your chance to get in front of some of the leading companies and studios in games development to find out what vacancies are on offer and show them you’ve got what it takes to be part of their team.

Some of the biggest names will be there, all looking to recruit the talent of tomorrow - people like you.

LH Webcams back

Lionhead just brought their first webcam back online! Situated in the Chief Technology Group area and pointing sort of at Sam, you have a great view of the corridor and a coatstand! Sam’s Cam is here, and currently the only one online though more will be added “in the months to come”. Fable 2 and “Project X” (Secret Game dammit!) are currently off-limits though.

Cam index is here, including a link to an olden webcam gallery. Announcement is here.

Molyneux to Jeux Online

JeuxOnline.info got a quick interview out of Molyneux and a couple others after the awards ceremony to their knighting. Molyneux doesn’t say anything concrete, other than the old herring of “online is cool, we’ll do something totally rad with it.” Since Jeux Online are that way inclined, the interview is in French. Lionnose has an Engrish translation of it.

Fable 2 in 360zine, #2

360zine, a free-to-download online magazine, just published its second roundup of Fable 2 (here’s the first). Grab it here. More of a roundup than new info unfortunately. It’s all interactive and shiny in the download version (in PDF, uses Flash).
