Molyneux at X06 - Transcribed!

Somewhat annoyed with not being able to look up exactly what was said at X06, I sat down and transcribed the entire video, so it’s all written down almost exactly word for word. It’s quite a lot that can be said in 23 minutes - 4000 words, actually.

You can watch the video here, uploaded by Khione to Gametrailers, and read the transcription below. Good for quoting, that.

Elvis found in House of Fraser

There’s a guy in Gamespot’s Fable 2 forums claiming that he works in the House of Fraser in Guildford and served a rather nice American chap. Chatting a bit with him, it apparently turns out he worked on Fable and is now working on Fable 2. Naturally he asked him when it’s going to be out: the reply was, “before the next major holiday”. Bowerstone, he said, will also be the biggest town and he apologised about “how many things were cut from Fable”. The developer introduced the woman with him in the store as Fable 2’s executive producer [which checks out - it could be Louise Copley, one of the producers of Fable], and then they chatted for a bit about Fable 2 and the fighting system, but no details of that were recounted in this story. Read it after the jump.

A Google Earth screenshot of GuildfordThere is a bit of discussion in the thread, naturally, and no-one can see why this would definitely be untrue - but it seems a bit of a long shot, at least talking about completely unreleased details like a release date or the fighting. An amateur sleuth has even posted a screenshot showing how House of Fraser actually is close enough for some LH folk to go there.

Become a Fable newsie

I’d like to qualify this first … being a writing monkey isn’t as glamorous as it may appear. You don’t get as many trophy celebrity brides as you would expect, for one thing. (The ones you do get are pretty excellent, though.)

Nevertheless, you can become a Project Ego newswriter! Project Ego.net is a very large Fable fansite, about a year old, and claims tens of thousands of visitors a month. Not only that, you get a great (but distinct) opportunity for abusing power in becoming a moderator on their forums. Apparently moderating and writing up news both make for a purty CV, too.

Steve, aka Mr. Project Ego, also claims big things are in the haps over there. Check it out.

Lionhead @ Berlinale

From the Hollywood Reporter: An executive from Lionhead will be speaking at a film & media keynotes event in Berlin in the middle of February! Molyneux’s talked about what games can do compared to movies for a while now, so he (or someone else, that’s not known) will probably talk about what games can do compared to films in terms of storytelling, emotion etc.

New Concept Art!

Lionhead’s Pet, Sam, has just unveiled some new Fable 2 concept art! <3 The thread’s here!

There is something we’d like to show you…

Notice the little outhouse?

… and we would like to add the following 3 points, for you to speculate:

  • This is a castle
  • “Own all the world’s property”
  • Located in a city

360Zine’s Roundup

There’s an article on Fable 2 in the second issue of 360Zine. It’s really nothing new, more of a roundup, but a good one at that. Images of it show the article, courtesy of Project Ego’s Steve. Most interestingly of all, they reckon it’s about 60% complete (as seen on the last page, bottom right).

Edit: Apparently it’s also really really worth buying downloading for free on 360Zine’s site, so … do that. Interactive elements that blow you away, possibly.

Reynard’s (non)Fable 2 impression

Ego Maniacs’s Reynard’s been to Lionhead Studios, and while he did have to sign an NDA, what he says is very encouraging … Looks like the GDC Secret really is something special, and that Fable 2 will indeed be bigger! The important parts are quoted here.

Fable 2 Milestone!

This new milestone, just a few hours old, is in two parts: the very beginning of the Fable 2 Graphics engine & a little bit about the weekly team reports, with a rather nice poem (full thing is quoted after the jump). Sam exceeded himself and brought it faster than expected, which is nice.

It’s got a few screenshots from the earliest development (just basic placeholder models and textures), but nothing really juicy. Interestingly, it seems that water is rather important (important enough to be in Molyneux’s Speech at GDC ‘07?). Arrrgh, matey. Arrrgh indeed.

A little triangle of Swiss goodness

Sam VT: Yes, obviously I enjoyed myself during my holidays, however this has had no influence of ANY kind WHATSOEVER on the delivery of the next milestone! Pfew.

Stay tuned, the update is coming and it won’t take too long. Next week at most!

Sir_Reynard is sitting next to me currently, nagging me all the bloody time to hurry up with it (and to go and play table football). You have to thank him for this I reckon! ;)

Oh - and Charlton of course. Who doesn’t like Toblerone.

Gradius/Charlton: Triangular dog poo. It aint natural!

There you have it. Toblerone: triangular dog poo.
